Paula Palacios reveals what daily life is like for these refugee women in the documentary “Women refugees: authentic heroines”. The film, commissioned by Al Jazeera,, looks at the everyday lives of these women and the helplessness they feel living in a country which they would like to contribute to, but are often faced with unforgiving racism. “There has not been a lot of films that focus on female refugees in this region” Ms. Palacios says. “For that reason alone, this film will be really unique”. When in the Ukraine, female refugees find it difficult to find work, they encounter discrimination and often have a language barrier. Some are victims of the sex trade. Returning to their home country is not an option. Many of these women could face violence or even worse should they return to their previous home lands. The film “Women refugees: authentic heroines” is set to be released worldwide in 2012.
