Whenever they discuss the issue they always throw out the red herring about how this is a country of immigrants.

If you doubt me, try to have a rational discussion with them.
See how soon they make illogical statements like the one you just pointed out or they resort to blaming, catagorizing, finger pointing and name calling.

Why does the political right get upset when legal immigrants wish to keep their language and culture?
Because in their world there is no difference. That electric kool aid is some bad stuff.
Some things are illegal because they are inherently bad (e.g. murder, rape).
Some things are illegal because they are simply prohibited (e.g. failing to get a permit for your kitchen remodel).
Which one is "illegal immigration"?

We aren’t refusing to differentiate. We’re just saying that due to our own roots, maybe we shouldn’t be so harsh on the illegals. After all, it’s not like we’ve been taking border security very seriously since Reagan granted amnesty. We’re partly responsible for making illegal border-crossing so easy.

First, you’re not understanding what the left is saying. They do differentiate. However, there is a legal definition, and a practical definition. The right is working in a dream world where we can afford to deport or imprison all the illegals, and they looks great on a billboard but isn’t realistic at all.
The left, in this case, is working in reality. The right is living a dream.
Maybe they hve a language problem. The sure like to change the meaning of things.
Because they do not value citizenship or totally devalue any responsibilities that citizenship used to have. Or, more disturbingly, the left only supports laws that they desire.

Plenty of democrats believe illegal immigration is a problem that needs to be solved and the borders should have tighter regulation – of course, unlike the republicans, we don’t pretend to know how to get all of the people already here back to their country. Illegal immigrants don’t have tracking devices on them when they cross the border.
We don’t but maybe we are not that simpleton when things are not that simple…

Maybe because they’re all PEOPLE, and they fact that they are here means we need to figure out how to make them into tax paying citizens. The idea that we’re going to deport 10 million people is asinine and the only "plan" the GOP has except for building a long, tall fence.
That idea must have come from Mrs. Smith’s third grade classroom.
Um, because it doesn’t serve their agenda. But then, reality never does.
@Brooklyn: Getting rid of them is easy and inexpensive. Deny them work and the generous social programs that support them and they WILL leave. It really isn’t that hard, but our government, along with complicit local governments continue to encourage and support illegal populations. (Sanctuary cities ring a bell?)

I have more than a few friends who came to this country THE RIGHT WAY! They applied for their Visa and waited. Now they are TRUE citizens. I have great respect for them and their efforts to become LEGAL AMERICANS. The majority of illegal immigrants are uneducated and poor…that’s why they come here…to take the jobs we won’t do. The fact that they are poor and uneducated means they need help to reach the "American Standard." Liberal Democrats are all about leveling the playing field…the more these illegals need help the more it advances a socialist agenda. Illegal immigrants make the Democrats look good, as Samaritans, it’s an ego boost to them as well…but we know the TRUTH!
